The 2011 IDA Congress Education Conference will focus on three major design disciplines, namely: industrial design, communication design and interior/architecture design.
The conference will explore the relationship between these three design disciplines and the five major fields: biotechnology, urbanism, the Internet, economic development and international migration.
Discipline One: Industrial Design
The purpose of conducting industrial design is to manufacture appealing, useful and appropriate products that meet current user needs, or solve unmet ones, to improve our daily lives.
Successful industrial design frequently embodies the following attributes: useful, usable, universal, ergonomic, emotional, cultural, serviceable, green and/or innovative.
A paper might address but is not limited to one the following topics:
- User experience design and usability issues
- Needs, aspirations and emotional benefits for the consumer (integrate design)
- The matching of product design and technology expectations
- The connection between customer satisfaction and quality of the total user experience
- Technological development in the field of industrial design
- Design and economic development
- Commercially successful or strategic/commercial benefit
Discipline Two: Communication Design
Communication design is an intellectual, technical and creative activity concerned not simply with the production of images but with the analysis, organisation and methods of presentation of visual solutions to communication problems. It is multidisciplinary in scope and includes the implementation of co-creation with computer technology to effectively and efficiently enhance human interaction. A paper might address but is not limited to one of the following topics:
- Types of communication design with respect to human emotion
- Strategies for co-creation in communication design
- The value of communication design with regard to customer experience
- Internet communication and social interaction
- Digital media and communication
Discipline Three: Interior/Architecture Design
The significance of Interior Architecture/Design is its ability to encourage the interaction between people, spaces and entire fields of thought. The discipline caters to innate human needs in order to raise quality of life, by studying factors such as environmental psychology and anthropometrics.
A paper might address but is not limited to one of the following topics:
- Case studies of interior architecture/design with biotechnology
- Integrated impact of interior architecture/design
- Interior architecture/design processes, tools and methods of research
- Universal interior architecture/ design trends and development
- Design for the other 90%
